Amend: The Fight for America
I created storyboards for half the episodes of the Netflix documentary “Amend: The Fight for America”. Starring and produced by Will Smith, the series went over the history of many civil rights movements and legal battles. Each episode is a combination of interviews, photographs, and narration, complimented by animation done by Elastic and Titmouse.
Episode 102 “Citizen” Starts the docu series off with the telling of Frederick Douglas’s efforts towards African American citizenship and the rights gated off from them due to the lack of citizenship.
Episode 102 “Resist” dealt with the legality of racial segregation in the United States. The direction for this sequence involved ominous judges overseeing a town falling in to disarray, as African Americans run to safety only to be surrounded by a mob (public opinion) and an army of police (the state).
Episode 104 “Control” dealt with gender rights and the woman’s right the vote. A symbolic character reminiscent of Rosie the Riveter was created to lead the narrated animated portions. She leads a sea of women out of a bird cage and they work together to demolish their barriers.
